OTOY is a serverside rendering service that can stream 3D games to your computer through any web browser. It let’s you play games like Crysis in HD quality in your browser. You just have to open an (mobile) browser and just get into the game with no real plugins installed.

OTOY has been working with microprocessor manufacturer AMD  since 2006 to make the idea of server-side graphics processing a reality. If all goes as planned, 3D rendering will become just another computer task that jumps from the client to the cloud. Call it gaming as a service (GaaS) if you will. No more Xboxes, no more PlayStations and no more souped-up PC towers. Just a monitor, some controls, and a way to receive and display frames generated by a powerful server farm.

And OTOY just became mobile through the growing market of smartphones with Wifi , HSPA and a fast browser!  Techcrunch got their hands on a clip proving that when OTOY says its technology will work on nearly any browser-enabled device, it means it. This is really great!! We will follow the development of OTOY very closely as this could also be a great platform for marketeers to use create more interactive brand engagement and awareness. Think about an mobile ad that, when clicked on, it unfolds and takes you on a virtual ride or conversation in a 3D environment (maybe combined with Augmented Reality!). The mobile (marketing) market becomes less restrained as it is nowadays. Let’s wait and see what will happen!
