Analogue Books, a bookshop and gallery in Edinburgh, is hosting an exhibition of works by Dominic Wilcox, maybe most well known for his War bowl made of melted green army men, but also a prolific cartoonist, as seen at his blog Variations on Normal. The show will run from September 4th through October 2nd at the Analogue Books space at 102 West Bow, Edinburgh. Be the first to check it out at the opening and preview on Friday, September 3rd, 7-9pm.

Adaptive Path’s UX Week 2010 kicked off Tuesday at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, and it couldn’t have been a better day for it; the first beautifully hot, summery weather I’ve seen since I landed at SFO earlier this summer. This year’s UX Week promises an interesting line-up of game designers to meta-thinkers, each steeped in the study of people and behavior. You may consider UX folks nerds, but give us credit for being some of the most socially adept nerds you’ll ever meet.

This summer, Levi’s kicked off a new initative to open a series of production shops, starting with a community print studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. There, they taught classes on letterpress machinery, screenprinting, and setting type, in an effort to encourage community members to get together and make things.

They also also brought in collaborators like Author and Chef Alice Waters, Soundscreen Design, and Stefan Sagmeister, who spent a day speaking and working at the print shop. Levi’s has provided a visual recap of some of the day’s best moments above.

Though the shop will close its doors this Saturday, August 28th, look for its rebirth as a photo studio in New York City this October.

The world around us is changing fast, and not all the changes are positive. We’re facing the biggest natural, social and economic challenges our world has ever seen. We’ve addressed some of these issues in the past, but the days of just talking are over. It’s time to take action.

Picnic 2010 is coming up fast, happening in Amsterdam from the 22 through the 24th of September. The festival, now six years in the running, brings together creative and business leaders to work together on finding innovative answers to some of the world’s biggest questions. This year, the theme is “Redesign the World,” excerpted above. The theme is subdivided into sections that examine design’s relationship to developments in biology, media, urban planning, design itself and business.

Sample talks include: Life Sciences De-Mystified with Denise Caruso, Redesign Media with Cory Doctorow, and Future City Mobility with Mitchell Joachim.

The 12 winners of the Sukkah City design competition have been announced, with their designs to be built at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn and then moved to Union Square in Manhattan for public display on Sunday, September 19 and Monday, September 20.

“We asked some of the most creative people in the world to re-imagine and renew the sukkah, and the results are truly dazzling and inspiring,” said Roger Bennett and Joshua Foer of the cultural organization Reboot, which organized the competition in collaboration with the American Institute of Architects, Architizer, Dwell, the Union Square Partnership, and the City’s Department of Parks & Recreation. “This humble structure will come to life in twelve new forms that are bold, beautiful and quintessentially New York.”
