Motorola Announces “Defy” for European Market
Sep 1st
Motorola has added to their Android portfolio today as they unveiled their new, ruggedized Defy handset for European carriers. While it may look like an average touch-only phone, it has what it takes where it counts. Taking its queue from the i1 released earlier this year, the Defy is considered a rugged handset. Essentially, this means the phone can withstand all types of abuse, including water, drops, dust, and scratches.
The hardware is pretty solid on the inside with an 800 MHz OMAP 3610 processor, 1.25GB onboard memory, and 5-megapixel camera. The 3.7-inch screen is protected with Gorilla Glass and has an 480×854 resolution. The Defy comes with Android 2.1 and MOTOBLUR 1.5, with Froyo listed as “being investigated”. Look for this guy later in the fourth quarter of the year (Q4 2010).

Aug 31st
Get used to seeing a bunch of Android tablet rumors and announcements. They are not going anywhere anytime soon. Like the state of handsets a year ago, the future of Android is littered with devices. Today sees LG announcing (translate) their new “Optimus Pad”. We don’t have any specs or hard details at this point, but we’re anxious to learn what the handset maker has up their sleeves. The more crowded the tablet space gets for Android, the better. Especially with companies like Dell, LG, and Samsung getting in on the action.

New Pictures from the 7 inch Samsung Galaxy-Tab/Pad
Aug 26th
Personally, I have yet to be tired of hearing about news regarding Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. Unfortunately, our latest offering isn’t big news like the teaser site going live, however, we have a bunch of new pictures courtesy of oled-display.net. There’s a picture that reconfirms the Galaxy Tab will come with Android 2.2 Froyo, as well as a few that show off the large display and full web browser. I am hugely excited to hear more details about this new device and any new pictures that surface immediately have my attention.
What do you guys think? IPad Killer, gimmick, oversized Galaxy S? Who’s looking forward to a release?

TeleNav Unveils OnMyWay for Android
Aug 26th
TeleNav is releasing another handy application, OnMyWay into the Android Market today. You know TeleNav, don’t you? They’re the brains behind your Sprint and AT&T navigation titles. To describe their new (free) app’s premise, I think it’s best to use it in a short hypothetical scenario.
Let’s say you are on your way to a ten o’clock brunch meeting and you’ve got a an hour drive ahead of you. You start off on time, but later you find yourself stuck in traffic and it looks like you’re going to be late. What’s the best way to to let everyone know what time you’ll actually get to the restaurant? You don’t want to call everyone, do you? And we all know better than to text while driving, right? OnMyWay does this for you.
OnMyWay alerts a pre-set recipient or group of people as to your status and ETA. Set the notification right before you start driving and everyone gets an alert (text and/or e-mail) that tells them when you are expected to arrive at the destination. If you run into anything that might delay you, OnMyWay automatically sends an update to those that matter. Their new message tells them that you’ll be late and provides the updated ETA. This way, you don’t have to worry about anything but driving safely.
To create an OnMyWay notification, you’ll need to follow a few quick steps:
- Input a destination
- Enter a scheduled appointment time
- Selects or enter phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses to send alerts to
- Start!
Your phone contacts are integrated into the app so there’s no need to hunt anything down. Further, you have the option to send personal messages with your notifications. For those of you worried about privacy, OnMyWay never shows your specific location, nor does it share it with any recipients. Keep your eyes peeled for OnMyWay in the Android Market!
