Motorola Updates Android Upgrade Time Line

Motorola has announced that they recently upgraded their Android 2.1 and 2.2 update time line.  With this, it was revealed the already end-of-life Motorola Devour would not be upraded to Android 2.1. Not a real surprise there though.

The upgraded time line also detailed the status of the Android 2.1 updates for the Motorola Cliq, Cliq XT, and Motorola Backflip.  These updates, are now scheduled to roll out in Q3 and Q4 respecively (see the chart above).  That is some good news for Cliq and Backflip owners (better late than never). They will be tasting Eclair real soon.

Also, the Motorola Milestone will be getting Android 2.2 in Q4. Nice.

Hope everyone is having a nice sunday!

All But Confirmed – Motorola Cliq XT Launching This Week for $99

T-Mobile’s next Android handset, the Motorola CLIQ XT is set to roll out this week.  We missed the launch by a week, calling for it last Wednesday the 10th.  Turns out, it should be tomorrow, and for a lower price than previously expected.  For $99 and a 2-year commitment, T-Mobile customers will be able to pick up the touch-only device that features a 5 megapixel camera, Swype, and Flash Lite.  Additionally, a 1-year plan will set you back $199 up front.

Are any of you guys thinking about the CLIQ XT?  Does the price sway you in one direction or the other?

Cliq XT Pamphlet Leaks on Eve of Release

We’ve yet to hear anything official from Motorola or T-Mobile in regards to the release of the Cliq XT.  For a phone that’s rumored to launch tomorrow, both the carrier and handset manufacturer have been super silent.  To confirm that the phone is ready for release,   I spoke with the manager at my local T-Mobile store.  Sounds like it’s ready to go as I was advised they’ve received both dummy, non-working displays as well as the floor model for demonstration.

Engadget was recently passed some images of the brochure for the CLIQ XT showing how sales reps can effectively sell the handset.  Details include talking about the web browser with Flash Lite, the 5 megapixel camera, and MOTOBLUR.  The smart phone also features Flash Lite, multi-touch, and preloaded apps SHOUTcast, Midomi, GoTV, Last.fm, TuneWiki, and SoundHound.

Look for the CLIQ XT to sneak out tomorrow for $129 with a 2-year agreement.

CLIQ XT to Run $129 with 2-Year Agreement

T-Mobile’s next Android handset, the Motorola CLIQ XT is dropping with a great price attached to it.  At $129.99, this marks the lowest debut price point for an Android phone on the nation’s fourth largest carrier.  Yet-to-be-announced, the handset is a touch-only device that was once known as the Zeppelin.  It should be noted that while more expensive on contract than the G1, it’s $40 less if you buy it outright.  The CLIQ XT will be $329 if you decide to purchase one without a service agreement.  In fact, this will be T-Mobile’s least expensive Android handset if purchased alone.

A quick rundown of specs peg the handset at 528 MHz processor speed, 256MB RAM/512ROM, a megapixel camera w/ autofocus and LED flash, and MOTOBLUR (Android 1.5).  This marks the first handset from Motorola to feature their custom user experience on top of a touch-only handset.  Also noteworthy, the CLIQ XT also features Adobe’s Flash Lite built in, giving the phone an improved web experience over other Android handsets.

If you’re interested in picking up a CLIQ XT, they’re rumored to drop on March 10th.

What do yo guys think of this handset and pricing?  Are you swayed either way now that you know the costs involved?
