iPhone Dev-Team says no Jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2
Aug 26th
The iPhone Dev-Team will not release a jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 with the baseband of 3.2.2. It is a never ending cat and mouse game between Apple and the jailbreak community and for current iOS software, the Dev-Team are choosing to sit on the side line and for good reason.
“No, there won’t be. FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was only released to fix the jailbreakme hole. With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play”.”
They do go on to say that a future 4.1x FW jailbreak may be compatible with 4.0.2/3.2.2 but that it will be highly unlikely. For more jailbreak chatter be sure to visit our iPhone Jailbreak and Unlock forum.

iPhone 4 unlock will be released within 48 hours
Aug 2nd
Those of you looking to break your iPhone 4 free from it’s carrier lock have less than 48 hours to wait as iPhone Dev Team member planetbeing announced late last night on Twitter that the unlock is just around the corner. It was just yesterday that Comex released his new web-based jailbreak but not without some issues. Those issues consisted of some users losing MMS and FaceTime. Since then those issues have been cleared up and if you give the jailbreak a try you should be good to go, at least until Apple releases a new firmware update which will break this jailbreak method.
How many of you are chomping at the bit to get a hold of this iPhone 4 unlock and what carrier are you looking to be free from?

RedSn0w 0.9 for Mac and Windows Officially Released by iPhone Dev-Team
Feb 1st

iPhone Dev-Team member, MuscleNerd has announced that redsn0w 0.9 is officially out of beta and is now available in both Mac and Windows flavors.
“redsn0w 0.9beta3 results were good, may as well take it out of beta: http://is.gd/7ppQO (new: ipt3G and IPCC tethering)”
This version of redsn0w supports all iPhone and iPod touches running the 3.0 and 3.1.2 firmware. If you need to perform a carrier unlock on your iPhone 2G, redsn0w can do that for you but for the 3G and 3GS you must use Cydia to install blacks0w for baseband 04.26 and ultrasn0w for baseband 05.11. And yes, for late model 3GS devices you are still limited to a tethered jailbreak.
For the full details and download links be sure to check out the official redsn0w 0.9 wikee.

RedSn0w 0.9 Beta for Mac and Windows is Released by iPhone Dev-Team
Jan 22nd

The iPhone Dev-Team is back, this time with the first beta of RedSn0w 0.9 for Mac and Windows. Version 0.9 will allow for jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing of the iPhone OS 3.0/3.1.2 software. It is important to note that this beta supports every iPhone and iPod touch with the exception of the iPod touch G3. (That will be supported after the beta period is over.)
For quite some time now blackra1n has been the most-used tool to get your jailbreak on but the way this new version of redsn0w works, could that change? You see this software uses the original Pwnage bootrom exploit from iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod 1G. What this means is the only way for Apple to combat it is via a hardware change. However, for the iPhone 3GS and iPod 2G running 3.1.2, things are a little different as they still use the USB exploit that is said to be going away with the iPhone 4.0.
Due to some last minute forum software changes, the Dev Team isn’t promoting the release yet, but if you’d like to check it out for yourself, the Mac version can be downloaded here while you can grab the Windows version here. (We’ll update with a link to the Dev Team post when it goes live).
