Have a Galaxy S? Then You Got the Gorilla!

Image from Corning

You read the title right!  Corning has announced that they indeed were the providers of the glass that is on all Galaxy S devices!  It is good to know that our precious devices are protected by this virtually indestructible glass product!

A quote from the slashgear.com article covering this story:

The Gorilla Glass covers the big 4-inch AMOLED screen of all Galaxy S models. In case you aren’t familiar with Gorilla Glass, it is an alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is scratch resistant and durable. The glass is starting to make significant headway into the mobile device market thanks to its durability.

This is the glass that Engadget WHALED on try to get to break with no success.  I don’t recommend trying the same test, but if you do, let us know how it goes!

Tablets, eReaders, and More Coming from Verizon as 2H Details Emerge

As we draw toward the close of 2010, we’re learning what various carriers and handset makers have up their sleeves.  We’ve recently learned that Verizon’s Android love is going to stay strong through the holiday season.  Today we’re hearing even more about the carrier’s plans for the mean green OS.  PhoneArena has been passed some details for the next few months as a whole, but we’ll give you the Android stuff you came for.  A lot of this actually confirms earlier reports and pieces things together.  Buckle up, there’s a lot to get through!September should see the release of a Droid 2 World Edition with options for a black/blue color scheme or white edition.  We can also expect the launch of a Motorola Citrus WX445 handset which might be marketed to the younger, social network savvy demographic.

The Samsung Galaxy S series Fascinate is planned for an October debut, bringing Super AMOLED greatness to its fourth major US carrier.  An entry-level QWERTY Samsung I100 Gem and mid-range I400 Continuum I400 are also expected.

Motorola isn’t taking their foot off of the gas, bringing an XT610 which is said to feature a Droid X-like screen size (4.3-inches) but with hardware more in the middle of the pack (think 3.2 or 5-megapixel camera and slower CPU).  PhoneArena’s source says to expect a $100-$130 price point with a contract.  Also arriving in October is a Motorola A957 “Sick” which likely comes from a “Dude, check out how sick this phone is!”

November sees Verizon shifting Android gears a bit with the launch of the enTourage eDGe dual-screen e-reader and the enTourage Pocket device.  There’s an HTC Merge with a 10-megapixel camera and processor clocking in at 1GHz or faster also due around Turkey-time.  This might be the phone we broke a few weeks back.  Two tablets are expected, a Samsung I800, and Stingray Z600 tablet coming from Motorola.

Should we see even half of this come to fruition by year’s end, there’s plenty to look forward to.  Verizon is quickly positioning themselves as the carrier for Android devices.
