Motorola Announces “Defy” for European Market
Sep 1st
Motorola has added to their Android portfolio today as they unveiled their new, ruggedized Defy handset for European carriers. While it may look like an average touch-only phone, it has what it takes where it counts. Taking its queue from the i1 released earlier this year, the Defy is considered a rugged handset. Essentially, this means the phone can withstand all types of abuse, including water, drops, dust, and scratches.
The hardware is pretty solid on the inside with an 800 MHz OMAP 3610 processor, 1.25GB onboard memory, and 5-megapixel camera. The 3.7-inch screen is protected with Gorilla Glass and has an 480×854 resolution. The Defy comes with Android 2.1 and MOTOBLUR 1.5, with Froyo listed as “being investigated”. Look for this guy later in the fourth quarter of the year (Q4 2010).

Turn Off TouchWiz on the Epic 4G
Sep 1st
Their contribution to slower OS updates notwithstanding, a lot of us would feel a lot better about OEM’s custom UIs if they could just be turned off if a user prefers to use stock Android. Well, at least for one of their Galaxy S variants, Samsung has made this possible.
On Sprint’s newly released Epic 4G, switching from TouchWiz to the standard launcher is as simple as clearing out a default in the application settings. BriefMobile has full details on how to make the switch.

We’re less than a month away from the rumored G2 launch (Sept. 29) so we’re not surprised by the recent spate of leaks. This time around, we’re being treated what’s billed as the first “official” images of the T-Mobile handset. Check out three pictures of the device with carrier branding, in various angles!
As a recap, the HTC device will run Android 2.2 and feature a 3.7-Inch Active Matrix OLED display, 1 GHz Processor, and 5-megapixel camera with autofocus. Other details include support for WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and of course, T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network!
So, let’s hear it. Are you guys getting excited over this or what? Does T-Mobile have a serious flagship device worthy of comparison to the Droid 2 or Epic 4G,?

Huawei Announcing Phone Developed with Google This Week
Aug 31st
According to the Wall Street Journal, Huawei is set to announce a new Android 2.2 powered phone this week. Those of you who follow Android closely know that Huawei is no stranger to the platform, having already released multiple devices. What’s so special about this phone? Apparently, it’s one of those rare handsets co-developed with Google. As you are probably aware, this doesn’t happen to often (G1, Nexus One). We’ll be watching the announcement closely as we’re fans of the Pulse and other Huawei phones. It’s not known where this phone will end up once it’s announced but WSJ says the device will be “highly competitive price-wise.”

Droid 2 Rooted!
Aug 26th
That’s right, just weeks after it;s release, the Motorola Droid 2 has been rooted! The geniuses over at XDA Developers have done it again with this latest hack. At first glance, the process looks fairly simple, but it’s not one click root, that’s for sure. So, if you’re unsure about rooting, I would wait until an easier method is released. This one isn’t for the faint of heart, so be cautious.
As of now, there have been no ROM releases or recovery images, but we’ll keep you posted on any new developments.
A special thanks goes out to our own Bruce Wilke for this tip!
