Steve Jobs happy Intel bought Infineon WSL?

Apple happy Intel bought Infineon WSL

According to CEO Paul Otelini, he made sure Steve Jobs was comfortable with the purchase before Intel acquired Apple iPhone 3G baseband supplier, Infineon WSL.

Intel chef Paul Otellini says he checked the opinion of Apple CEO Steve Jobs before buying German chipmaker Infineon Technologies’ wireless unit for US$7.7 billion. The deal makes Intel a major supplier of the baseband chips that let mobile phones connect to cellular networks.

“Steve was very happy,” Otellini told Fox Business TV. “The industry was abuzz that this business unit was on the market, and there were a number of competing companies for it. I think they are very happy that Intel won the bid.”

It makes sense, given Intel’s existing relationship with Mac hardware, that they’d want to keep their new, high profile, mobile customer happy. The question is, did Intel check with Steve Ballmer before buying McAfee?

Motorola Charm Rooted!

Boom! And just like that, the XDA-Developers have rooted the Motorola Charm.  The handset was rooted via the Universal Androot method, but the  NAND isn’t unlocked during the process, so reverting back to stock is quite simple. No custom ROMS yet, but I am betting they are already in the pipeline.  If you want instructions hit up  the thread here.

As always folks, flash with caution and make sure to follow directions to a T.

Archos adding a slew of Android tablets including the 101

With two Archos 5 tablets in my rearview mirror, I am definitely looking forward to the new 101.  The nomenclature is shorthand for the 10.1″ screen with 1024×600 resolution.

The specs can be found here but the most notable are:

- Android 2.2
- ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor accompanied by a 3D OpenGL ES 2.0 for graphics

This unit would/could be just another tablet that can be bought unlocked from a carrier and without a data plan but with WiFi springing up all over the place, who cares?  We don’t need no steenkin’ 3G!

Motorola: “Do NOT Load the Leaked 2.2 Upgrade”

Handset maker Motorola is advising Droid X customers to shy away from manually installing the leaked Froyo builds making their rounds.  According to them, this could leave you S.O.L. when it comes to the official update.

WARNING: Do NOT load the leaked 2.2 upgrade that has been floating around on the Internets. There is currently no upgrade path from that load to the official 2.2 load that will be released by early September. Unless you have some plan to flash your phone back to the current official load, you could be stuck on the leaked version.

We understand that you guys get anxious about the latest and greatest, but let’s not forget, the real deal is expected by early September.
