Motoroi All But Officially Headed for T-Mobile USA in March

I love it when people put their free time to good use.  Someone over at CellPhoneSignal has put together what seems like perhaps the final piece of the puzzle which indicates the Motorola Motoroi is coming to T-Mobile USA soon.

Looking over some FCC filings, it was found that a Motorola device ID’d as IHDP56KC6 was certified for quadband EDGE plus the T-Mobile 3G bands of 1700/2100MHz.  For the most part, Motorola was able to hide/cover up any details that specifically outed the handset.  Unfortunately, there was one place they forgot to address.  Look at the top of the picture below and you’ll notice a reference to “SHOLES”.

As Engadget points out, all of the previous FCC filings for the Droid/Milestone handset had specs for both ’slider up’ and ’slider down’ positions.  This time around, there’s only one set.  Sounds like a tablet-like phone to me.  Think back a few months ago when an internal Motorola screen leaked a SHOLES Tablet for T-Mobile and you’ll see the stars lining up.

Tmo-News has been running articles lately that has a March 10th launch for an upcoming Motorola handset.  While their most recent post pegged it as the being Zeppelin, it turns out their source may still be mostly right. Taking all of these things into consideration, I believe we’ll be seeing this phone in the next few months.

The Motoroi features an 8 megapixel camera, a 3.7-inch high-definition WVGA screen, 720p video recording and  HDMI output.  There’s also Terrestrial DMB which allows for watching 24 channels of television in South Korea.  We’re likely to see that part get lost on the trip the US.  The phone also runs stock Android 2.0 as of right now.  It’s not known whether or not the plan is to integrate MOTOBLUR “should” a phone like this hit the states.

If poking around FCC documents is your type of thing, you can read the full report here.

I haven’t read too many positive responses to that hump on the right side but the negative responses are a dime a dozen. I guess we know what was being cropped in that first leak! If you’re reading this on the DroidDog homepage, you’ll need to click the “Continue Reading” link for more snaps of the 2.1-packin’ China-bound device.

Next up is a post from Android Guys about a slick phone with capacitive buttons beneath the display and what looks to me like a 5 MP cam with dual LED flash. Of course it’s difficult to tell but I think this one might be without keys. The legitimacy of these images is in question for many, but I don’t they are astounding enough to be fakes.

Second Droid Commercial Leaks to Internet [VIDEO]

droid_commercial_2Guess who has another scoop?  Yeah, BGR.  Those guys must have a phone directly to Commissioner Gordon or something because everything related to Droid so far has come through them.  This time around, they’re leaking the follow up commercial to the iDon’t ad from a few weeks back.  In a word, this commercial is fantawsomulous!  We’d heard before that they were going to ease up on the iPhone comparisons and this shows exactly that.  There is zero mention of any handset in the spot.  In fact, there is next to no dialogue at all.  We’ll share the first 3 words uttered out of our mouth after viewing… Read the rest of this entry »

GSM Droid Caught on Film, Headed to T-Mobile?

milestone_pinchThe hottest Android phone on the planet right now has to be the Verizon Droid from Motorola.  The recently announced and soon to be launched handset has people drooling all over the world.  Unfortunately, the Droid won’t work in many parts of the world due to it being CDMA.  This calls for a GSM version!

Vietnamese website Tinhte was among the first to film some face time with a GSM-flavored Droid.  For unknown reasons, the video has been made private.  Not to worry though – below is the same video with annotations made by another user.   Read the rest of this entry »

Verizon Building Their Own Android Army

Android-VerizonAlthough we touched on this over the weekend, we wanted to circle back with more information about Verizon’s Android plans. If the reports from various mobile tech sites prove to be true, Verizon could be sitting with 4 Android handsets by the end of this year. Rumors have it that the nation’s largest carrier is gearing up for their own Android invasion slated to start as early as this week. So aside from the droid, what else is there?

HTC Passion (Dragon) – Website unlockr feels about 90% certain that the Passion will be a CDMA version of the HTC Dragon.  Astute readers have noticed that the bottom buttons of the HTC handset look eerily similar to those of the Motorola droid.  The Passion is expected to launch with Android 2.0 and a Snapdragon (1GHz) processor.  Verizon is alleged to be doing their best to make sure all the Android devices have similar appearance, even if they are different handset makers.

HTC droid eris (Desire) – Looking like a revamped Hero, the not much is know about the droid Eris yet.  It runs HTC Sense and is said to be “very fast.”  Works for us!  FUN FACT: The Wikipedia entry for Eris tells us that it’s the largest known dwarf planet.  Check out the picture that comes with the definition…

Motorola Calgary – The second Verizon handset to be made by Motorola, this one is starting to creep into the hands of popular bloggers.  The specs so far are not the bleeding edge stuff we’ve seen in other handsets, leading us to believe this could be a budget-based Android phone.

Verizon Takes iPhone Directly on with “Droid Does” Campaign [VIDEO]

droiddoesThis is the ad campaign we’ve all been waiting for. Verizon has decided to step up to the plate and show Sprint and T-Mobile how to generate serious interest in Android. And what’s the trick?  TELL PEOPLE WHAT IT DOES.  Start there.

Beginning this evening, Verizon Wireless is running a commercial that points out all the shortcomings of the iPhone with quotes like “iDon’t Have a Real Keyboard” and “iDon’t Run Simultaneous Apps”.  Finally, a platform that can do more, paired with a carrier ready to spend more.

The ad has a definite “Apple” feel to it with the pop/folk song and simple black on white font.  One thing is certain – Verizon is not afraid to take on AT&T or Apple.  Their previous “There’s a Map for That” commercial show just how much larger their data network is compared to 2nd place AT&T.   Read the rest of this entry »
