PhotoNest: View and Post Twitter Photo Streams with your iPhone
Mar 22nd
The folks at MindTapp dropped us a note to tell us about their new iPhone app, PhotoNest [$1.99 - iTunes link], that allows you to easily — and visually — post pictures to Twitter:
Twitter is an amazing real time communication tool, but it only sends links to photos and not photos themselves, which isn’t very pretty.
We are dedicated to fixing this! PhotoNest is an application that goes through your Twitter feed and looks for photos that your friends have posted. It then pulls that photo out and puts into a nice visual stream of photos from your Twitter friends.
The photos show up in a vertical stack. Tapping on one takes you to a full-screen view. Tapping on the action button sends you to the web page where the photo is stored (no “reply”, “retweet”, or “email link” options there that I could find — which is a real shame). You can post pictures of your own either by taking one via the embedded Camera or by picking one from your Photo galleries. It works well for what it is, and I like focused Twitter apps, but hopefully it will get rounded out over time. A grid-view option, for example, to rapidly parse and select photos would be great.
I’m a well known sucker for Twitter apps but I’m not a huge photo poster (outside of trade shows) or follower of high-volume photo posters, so I’ll have to wait and see what Leanna and the other far-cooler-than-me writers think before rendering final judgement. In the meantime, ask if you have any questions and if you’ve tried PhotoNest, let us know what you think!

Hootsuite Acquires Swift App
Mar 12th
Days after launching its Android application, Hootsuite is announcing that they have acquired developer Swift App. This doesn’t come as a total surprise as Swift App was the company behind the development of Hootsuite’s recent twitter client for Android. Observant Android users who had previous experience with Swift app noticed striking similarities between the two apps. As part of the acquisition, Sebastian Delmont, will join the HootSuite team as a mobile adviser.
HootSuite for Android lets users manage multiple Twitter profiles, perform realtime search, and track keywords. Further, it’s possible to drill down on click-through stats for your tweets right from the handset. Down the road, Hootsuite plans to integrate Facebook and other tools to help businesses and teams manage their social networking segments.

Seesmic’s Twitter Client Arrives on Android
Nov 21st
Yeah, we know the Android Market is littered with twitter clients, but we have a new one for you today. A rather big name in the twitter game has arrived and its name is Seesmic. Already available for desktops, through the internet, and BlackBerry, the free application finds many of today’s popular twitter tools.
Unfortunately, the lack of a widget in this release could be a dealbreaker for some Android users. This handy desktop feature helps keep an eye on timelines or fire off a quick tweet without the need to open an application. On the flip side, Seesmic has a decent sized fan base that could help them grab a share of the mobile space more quickly.
Fully featured: Seesmic for Android groups all your Twitter timelines in one simple screen. Whether you want to scroll infinitely in your friends timeline or want to find a private conversation with a friend, everything is one tap away in a beautiful interface.
Share photos, videos and location: Share photos, videos and your location in your tweets, with the service you want. We included popular photos and videos sharing websites like yFrog, TwitPic and even Youtube. You can also automatically shorten URLs you type with Bit.ly, J.mp or Tinyurl.
Be Notified: You can choose to be notified for what maters to you: all your tweets, your replies or your direct messages. Do you want to be alerted by a specific ringtone, or just by a discreet little light? No problem, you can configure to be notified for what you want and how you want. Tap any notification, and you are back in the Seesmic application.

Seesmic Launches Mobile Apps for Android and BlackBerry
Nov 20th
Hot on the heels of the launch of the Windows desktop app preview, Seesmic has brought its Twitter client to the mobile arena as well with the launch of clients for the Android and BlackBerry platforms. Both apps are available for free — get the Android version from the Android Market and the BlackBerry version by pointing your BlackBerry to Seesmic.
We had a chance to test out the Android build on the Motorola Droid and came away impressed. The interface is well-designed and easy to use. Read on for our impressions and a demo video below.
Four buttons at the top take you to timeline, replies, direct messages or profile views. Drilling down into an individual tweet allows you to reply, DM reply or retweet using the “original” RT style. Composing a tweet includes the ability to add location information, include a photo or video from your gallery or one on the spot from the camera, and shorten included links using bit.ly, J.mp or Tinyurl (you can make your selection in the Settings along with your choice of photo and video service).
From the profile view of yourself or another Twitter user, you can drill down into their tweets, favorites, followers and who they’re following, plus reply, direct message, unfollow or block them. It’s a nice level of detail, with one small omission which we’d love to see added at some point — support for Lists. Since Seesmic Desktop and the web version both added support recently, we’re sure it won’t be long before mobile clients get an update as well.
As compared to the current leader on the Android platform, Twidroid, Seesmic compares quite favorably to the free version. The app display is high-definition (the first high-def Twitter client on the platform, according to Loic Lemur, CEO and founder of Seesmic) which makes it more visually attractive — quite stunning on the Droid screen, for example. It does lack the search capability and trending features on Twidroid, but nevertheless the app is solid and a worthy addition to the Twitter client arsenal on the Android platform.
We’ll be testing out the BlackBerry version as well (pictured, below, along with a demo video of both clients), and Loic says sit tight for an iPhone version coming soon. We’d love to hear your impressions on both clients if you have a chance to check them out. Are you a Seesmic user excited about your Twitter client experience coming to the mobile? Let us know in the comments.

Brizzly is the Next Twitter Client to Support Lists
Nov 6th
Seesmic Desktop has the distinction of being the first third-party Twitter client to support the new Lists feature, and now web-based social reader Brizzly claims the second slot.
Currently in closed beta, Brizzly is a Twitter and Facebook client built by many of the same folks who built Google Reader. Its maker, Thing Labs, is headed up by Jason Shellen — a former veteran of Blogger, the startup Twitter’s Evan Williams sold to Google in 2003. Read the rest of this entry »
