Motorola Devour Gets Silver Finish – Nearing Release?

A BGR tipster passed along a picture of the Motorola Devour in a silver finish as well as some basic feedback about the device. According to them, the keyboard is “nice” and somehow “easier to use” than the Motorola DROID. Maybe it was MOTOBLUR, maybe it’s the trackpad found on the front, or maybe it’s persona bias.

A quick list of specs have pegged the Devour with a 3 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headset jack, 1420mAh battery and the standard fare of WiFi, GPS, and accelerometer. It’s not known whether the silver finish is the final color or if it will be the only option when the Devour arrives. The next few months will see CES, Mobile World Congress, and CTIA events each taking place so we expect Motorola to announce something soon.

Want a Free Droid Eris?

two_droid_erisJust got an email from Verizon I thought I would share with you Android Guys and Gals. Forgive me for sounding like a sales man, but, for three days only – 12/4-12/7 – you can buy one Droid Eris for $99 and get a second for free!  You might have heard some whispers about this earlier in the week, but it’s confirmed!

Of course, the standard two-year agreement and email/data plan has to be included.  The email goes on to say that if you place the order online you get free overnight shipping, free activation (Monday through Friday) and additional instant discounts. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Ready, set, GO! Click here for information on the offer.

Verizon’s Droid Eris to See 2.0 Update in Q1 2010

eris_eclairVerizon’s Droid is currently the only handset in the US to run the latest version of Android, but that will soon change. According to a Verizon Wireless spokesperson, their Droid Eris is slated to get a significant upgrade in the form of 2.0 or beyond.

“The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded to newer a Android operating system software in first quarter 2010. The enhancement will allow customers to continue to enjoy the powerful HTC Sense experience while also gaining the additional benefits of Google Maps Navigation.”

At $99, this was already one of the best Android bargains you can find. Combining Android 2.0’s capabilities with HTC’s Sense UI gets us all worked up! Depending on the timing, the Droid Eris could skip 2.0 and jump straight to 2.1!  We’ve previously heard that HTC plans to get the Hero up to 2.0 as well.  Perhaps Sprint will be the next wireless provider to offer Android 2.0 handsets.

Droid Eris Commercial – Verizon Still Taking Shots at Apple’s 3G Network [VIDEO]

eris_commercialNot to be deterred by a lawsuit, Verizon is still going hard on Apple for their network, or lack thereof.  The most recent example come from a commercial featuring the Droid Eris handset.  Android aside, the spot is a rather clever one.  The iPhone arrives on the Island of Misfit Toys and the others can’t figure out why.  It’s not until the iPhone… well, we’ll let you see.

Let’s just say it’s yet another zinger that points out the fact that apps aren’t everything.  Read the rest of this entry »

Leaked AT&T Memo Outlines Spin Tactics Regarding Verizon Lawsuit [Internal Memos]

I’ll admit that I got a slight chuckle out of this particular memo sent to AT&T employees today. It explains that the company has in fact filed a lawsuit against Verizon for the rather hilarious “There’s a Map for That” ad campaign and proceeds to instruct employees to use any inquiries as a chance to talk about AT&T’s great qualities: Read the rest of this entry »

Check it Out! It’s an Unboxed DROID Eris!

droid_eris_unboxedThere’s not much more to say aside from the headline.  Boy Genius Report has a tipster who scored an HTC Droid Eris from who-knows-where and has a few pictures from an unboxing.  We grabbed two that we liked and listed them here.  Warning: The entire gallery is only 5 shots so don’t head there expecting to see the phone from every angle.

What does BGR’s tipster say about the phone?  “…the phone is thinner and lighter than the Sprint HTC Hero, feels much better in the hand, and is generally the best Android device besides the Motorola DROID our connect has used.Read the rest of this entry »

DROID Does Times Square and Extended Hours

droid_times_squareThe Droid goes on sale this Friday and Verizon wants to make sure everyone knows about it.  The nation’s largest carrier has some special things in store for customers that only start with extended shopping hours.

Most of Verizon’s stores will open at 7:00AM or 8:00AM Friday so customers can get an early chance to purchase the DROID on its first day. Be sure to check with your local store to make sure they are taking part in the early access hours. If your Verizon store happens to be in a mall, you’ll have normal business hours that day.

Verizon is also planning a first-of-its-kind interactive experience in New York City. Called “DROID Does Times Square” the experience will allow callers to control two of the largest digital billboard (NASDAQ and Reuters) using only voice commands. Passersby will see a toll-free number (1-888-376-4336) that can be called to search the Times Square area for movies, restaurants, food, etc. The results will be displayed on digital billboards using Google Maps.

This experience will run from Nov. 6 through Nov. 20th, daily from 12:30 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. and from 6:00 a.m. on Nov. 27 through 2:00 a.m. on Nov. 28.

Fans around the world can witness the experience online at www.droiddoes.com/timessquare.
