CLIQ XT to Run $129 with 2-Year Agreement
Mar 2nd
T-Mobile’s next Android handset, the Motorola CLIQ XT is dropping with a great price attached to it. At $129.99, this marks the lowest debut price point for an Android phone on the nation’s fourth largest carrier. Yet-to-be-announced, the handset is a touch-only device that was once known as the Zeppelin. It should be noted that while more expensive on contract than the G1, it’s $40 less if you buy it outright. The CLIQ XT will be $329 if you decide to purchase one without a service agreement. In fact, this will be T-Mobile’s least expensive Android handset if purchased alone.
A quick rundown of specs peg the handset at 528 MHz processor speed, 256MB RAM/512ROM, a megapixel camera w/ autofocus and LED flash, and MOTOBLUR (Android 1.5). This marks the first handset from Motorola to feature their custom user experience on top of a touch-only handset. Also noteworthy, the CLIQ XT also features Adobe’s Flash Lite built in, giving the phone an improved web experience over other Android handsets.
If you’re interested in picking up a CLIQ XT, they’re rumored to drop on March 10th.
What do yo guys think of this handset and pricing? Are you swayed either way now that you know the costs involved?

Motorola Zeppelin Will Dock Next Month as Cliq XT
Feb 7th
The Motorola handset we’ve recently been reporting on, the Zeppelin, will be arriving next month on T-Mobile. A leaked T-Mobile roadmap that covers the next few months shows the Zeppelin launching March10th with the new name of Cliq XT.
Everything we’ve seen lately indicates the phone is virtually identical to the Cliq, save for the physical keyboard. While it’s likely to arrive with Android 1.5 under the hood, Motorola probably readying the same 2.1 update they’ll be pushing out to the Cliq. We don’t know of any prices yet, but we’re pretty sure it will be in the same $180-$200 ball park that most of T-Mobile’s lineup of Android phones – at least initially. We’ve seen pictures of this phone in both black and titanium, so it’s likely the Cliq and Cliq XT will share the same colors.
The rumored/expected specs include:
- 3.1- inch touch screen HVGA (480×320)
- 5 megapixel camera with autofocus
- Qualcomm MSM7201 528 MHz processor
- 512 MB flash ROM, 256 MB RAM
- WiFi 802.11 b/g, GPS, Bluetooth
- MOTOBLUR (Android 1.5)

Motorola Zeppelin Spied Soaring High Over Brazil
Feb 3rd
A fresh batch of Motorola Zeppelin images have surfaced and they’re considerably clearer then anything we’ve seen so far. Up until recently, we had been reporting on a different Motorola Zeppelin handset, even getting confused by the variations. Having decided that this newer design is the one we’ll likely see in the US, we’re ready to move forward under that assumption.
Earlier today, the folks at Gizmodo Brazil (translated) were passed a half dozen shots of this, dare we say, beauty. The Zeppelin looks more sleek and curvier than we expected out of Motorola. It appears they understand that not all touch-only phones have to be box-like slabs. Here we were, expecting to see something like the top half of a Cliq or Backflip.
Recapping, the handset will feature a 3.2″ screen, 5 megapixel memory snapper, and MOTOBLUR. The backbone is said to be Android 1.5, which may not be the case by the time it arrives. Latest rumors put this phone out for T-Mobile next month – March 10th, to be precise.

Slightly Different Looking Zeppelin Image Arrives
Jan 27th
If you’ve been coming to AndroidGuys lately, you’ll note that we’ve covered a phone here called the Motorola Zeppelin. Also known as the XT800, this handset is now official from Motorola with 3.7″ WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, 720p HD video, and 550 MHz processor.
Imagine our confusion when a picture of another handset from Motorola, going by the name of Zeppelin, arrived on Engadget Mobile today. According to mobil.cz (translated), the phone pictured above is in fact one that should making its debut at Mobile World Congress. The rumored specs include , touch-sensitive buttons, 5 megapixel camera, 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen, and MOTOBLUR.
We’re not sure what to make of the naming situation, but we still like the looks and specs of this phone either way. TmoNews believes that this new Zeppelin is the T-Mobile handset rumored for March 10th, but our money is on the Motoroi. Still, both would make welcome additions to the lineup of smart phones.

Motorola Will Be Launching 20 to 30 Android Phones in 2010
Jan 22nd
Great news for Motorola fans! Motorola’s Asia Pacific Vice President Spiro Nikokoulos recently stated in an interview with CNET Asia that the company will be launching 20 to 30 Android phones across the globe in 2010. The VP also said that not every phone would make it to every market, so there will probably be regional variants of many of the phones. We have already heard of the of the Shadow, the Devour, the Backflip, the Ruth, the Zeppelin and several others which may or may not be launching in China. What other handsets could there be? 2010 is truly in the year of Android.
